Day 1 - 6/5/10

Today I officially started my mission. I went to Wal-Mart and bought some new groceries, and than from noon-2 I walked from my apartment to Downtown Disney and back. The total distance was 5.2 miles, and it took just under 2 hours to complete.

That's pretty much all I did today. Starting off slow, but will be adding to it as time goes by. I thought I would answer some questions I saw in the comments from my introduction, so here goes!

First of all, thank you so much for all of the support and words of encouragement. It's so heartwarming knowing that everyone is behind me, and that some of you are even going to follow me and do your own mission. I hope this is a success not only for me, but for all of you out there!

I had someone ask me what my chest and waist sizes are. Luckily I just had them measured in April for my best friend's wedding, so they are fairly recent numbers. My chest size is 52, and my waist is 50.

At the moment I am starting off with the Slim Fast plan. I have 3 snacks a day (fruits, veggies, and/or a Slim Fast bar), drink 2 Slim Fast shakes a day, and eat 1 sensible meal. I also plan on walking and/or swimming everyday for 2 hours.

Someone who actually works at Forbidden Journey posted a comment saying "Will be following your quest and look forward to your subsequent visits! This is really a positive outlook and a shining example of the attitude we wish we encountered more. Not that the seat's aren't really restrictive as they are. -sad face- Good luck muggle!" Reading that totally made my day!

That's it for day 1! Tomorrow I will actually be going to Universal with some of my friends/co-workers from wdwnewstoday.com. I hope that I am able to get into the Wizarding World at park open so that I may do my first video post of me trying out the test seats. After that we are going to the Magic Kingdom for the first night of Summer Nightastic, where we will see the Main Street Electrical Parade! I will be getting a lot of walking done tomorrow, so that will be a big help!

  4. Good Luck! I'm going to the Wizarding World later this month, and I hope I can go on the ride *crosses fingers*, but just to be sure I'm gonna lose a couple extra pounds. Can't hurt, right?

  5. Good one. I did the same as you when I was to heavy to learn how to parachute. I did a similar plan (the special k challenge), but basically its the same: eat every 3 hours (a cereal bar in my case, which i love) and have one regular meal a day. I have 16 kg in 6 months. My tip is: do NOT go hungry. move up your snack time if you have to, but don't let hunger get to you, it will make you over eat. after about two months, you will notice a change in lifestyle, you will no longer hunger for a whole pizza, one or two slices will make you full, etc. good luck!!!

  6. I also work at Journey, and seeing your blog has made my morning! I feel SO bad that our seats are as restrictive as they are, it kills me to have to disappoint people that can't ride. But your attitude about this is so awesome!!! You can definitely count me as one of your supporters! I look forward to your next visit to our castle!

  8. I can understand what it's like...I might fit there, but it might be tough...I'm trying to lose weight while working 70 hours a week, it's not easy.

  9. Hey Banks! First I would like to say WAY TO BE MOTIVATED! Im a huge Potter fan and know it would have really ruined my experience if I coulnt ride the new main attraction, so I give you big kudos for your positive attitude!
Second I would like to say, my hubby has been on a personal mission himself and has lost 54lbs. I myself have lost a total of 73lbs! Wanna know our secret? We cut our portions, cut out sodas and "most" of our sweets, and followed the basic idea of having more veggies and fruit then starches, more protein then starches and walk walk walk. I would love to give you some more great pointers. If you're interested email me @ melissadiedricks@gmail.com
Also I am a Super Couponer (see my wesite for more info...www.pennywise4life.com) and I can show you how to saves hundreds on your groceries each week but also better your eating habits; i.e., whole wheat pasta instead of white, brown rice instead of white, organic produce instead of regular, and so on.
I'm so happy for you! Its a huge job to change your lifestyle but you can do it and you will be doing so much for yourself and SO many others!
    GOOD LUCK!

    Melissa :D

  13. I'm going to visit Universal in October to get my first glimpse of the Wizarding World of Harry Potter - can't hardly wait :)

I don't think 5+ miles is starting off slow at all! I blogged about you today and I just wanted to stop by and wish you luck. You just keep on keepin' on and in no time you'll be on that Journey :)
