Day 6 - 6/10/10

Well I still do not fit onto Forbidden Journey, but I never expected to so quickly. Yesterday I went back to The Wizarding World of Harry Potter to try out the test seat again, but this time I didn't even get one click. The girl at the test seat (inside near loading) told me they aren't supposed to force the restraint down to try and get clicks. This coupled with the fact my friend got onto the ride with two clicks makes me believe they really don't have their stuff straight when it comes to bigger muggles.

Oh well, I'm not here to complain, just enlighten. So far I'm doing well with cutting back on what I eat and the amount I eat. Also walking daily and getting ready to start swimming daily.

Had another guest recognize me yesterday while at Potter. As soon as they let day guests into Potter in the morning, I walk past these two girls at the entrance near the Hogwarts Express. They were both hugging each other and one was crying, excited to finally be able to get into Hogsmeade. It was a sweet moment. The girl crying looks up and immediately recognizes me from this blog and gives me a high five, telling me that I'm doing a great job. It's support like this that will help me get through all of this, and I completely appreciate it!

Alright, here is the question of the day: If you have had the great fortune of experiencing The Wizarding World of Harry Potter, what is your favorite part about it? Is it one of the attractions, shops, or shows? Or is it the amount of detail that went into it? Leave me a comment below with your answer!

  1. I read a thing on Yahoo news this morning that the attraction is like 3 rides (2 of which were just renamed to fit the Potter theme), a couple of food stalls where you can buy "butter-beer" and then a -shit load- of shops where you can buy $300 brooms, $35 scarves, and any number of other knick-knacks. The whole thing sounds super retail driven and little more than a money grab at Harry Potter fans.

  2. Ya, they shouldn't force it. Wouldn't want the guest to have a crummy experience just because they couldn't fit right.

Wow, me and my sister are going to be those two girls when we go in 2012. She's been a huge Potter fans since the books came out.

It's a shame we can't reply to other people's comments.

  3. Yo dude. Did you get any video footage of you trying out the test seat? I'm headed there tomorrow hope I fit I'm 6'6 280. I'll let ya know how it goes

  4. I'm heading to Florida in October and can't wait to check out Hogwarts! If I might make a suggestion? Look into the Medifast Diet instead of Slimfast. The Medifast shakes are lower in sugar and carbs than Slimfast and have a good dose of vitamins as well. I started Medifast in late-April and have lost 20 lbs. They also do shakes, bars, soups, chilis, etc... Good Luck!

  5. Good luck on your journey. A bunch of my friends and I were there last week and encounted that we 'might' be to big for this ride and was pulled off just before we got to the last part of the castle. They sent us up to the 'special' area to give us time to get on the ride - all 3 clicks for us and then the ride broke :(

Good luck on your journey bud!

  7. You've inspired me to get serious with my diet. Thanks! Three more weeks and I'm in IofA. Want to get from 5-10 230 lbs down to 5-10, 215 or so. Or get about four inches taller.

To Nick of 280 pounds: if it's not too personal can you tell us your waist size? If I understand right it's the waist rather than shoulders that is causing people not to get their three clicks. Thanks. Bill

  8. favorite part- The Forbidden Journey ride. I loved everything about it- from walking into Hogwarts to the very end.

But I also loved getting a butterbeer...and a wand.....and the way the staff had me ring a bell as they announced to the whole store the name of my Pygmy Puff.

There wasn't anything that I didn't like. Loved it all

  9. Hey dude, just walk walk walk. You'll lose weight like you wouldn't believe. Limit your carbs unless you are exercising that day, get lots of water and protein and WALK WALK WALK!! Obviously if you can jog or run do that but just get your heart beating and you'll get there in no time. Also, make it a lifestyle change fella not a diet just to get on this ride. Take care of yourself mate.

  11. No pressing on the harness today. Wish you luck in riding. Rode the other day but now they can't press at all on the harness. Had 3 clicks, now I got 1. Disney now gets my business.

  12. There's got to be something Universal isn't doing that Disney does. I can fit on all the rides at Disney, but I have a ton of trouble fitting on rides at Universal.

Good luck on your quest. I would love to do the same, but by the time I stop in the restaurant, eat some delicious treats, and drink some butterbeer i'll gain the weight back.

  13. To whoever asked me about my waist. I'm a 40

  14. what is your waist size when you sit down, as this is what causes the issue with not fitting. You can be 40 or 52 standing, but its diffferent when you are sitting, right? Can those that fit and those that didnt give us an idea of the "sitting" size?

  15. Thanks for sharing information about the test chair. I would completely mortified and extremely angry if I were to stand in line and then be blocked. I am less inclined to go there on my vacation now that I know.

  16. My favorite attraction was definitely the wand experience at Ollivanders. I wasn't the lucky girl who got to have the wand choose her, but when the music started playing when they found the right wand I got choked up just watching. I also like how they help you find your own wand based on your birth date. My wand is perfect!

  17. Banks, you are an inspiration to others! Way to go! Using a negative to create an incredible positive - more people in this world need to think like you. Great job and stay strong! Your goal is right in front of you. I am on the West Coast and can't wait to make the trek!

  18. Disney has a ride with a similar vehicle in the Epcot park innoventions section. Has anyone heard if there has been the same type of problem there????

  19. I just rode the Forbidden Journey ride today and I must say keep up the good work because it is totally worth it! The mechanics the ride uses just blew me away, I love how it goes from video to props so flawlessly you almost can't tell the difference between reality and movie.
I saw someone in a really sad situation today...she was on the ride and the attendant couldn't get the bars low enough. I am not sure how many, if any clicks she got...but she had gone through the entire line only to be shot down at the last minute. :(
Great luck to you with your diet and the new job!

  20. I Myself Have NEVER Been To ANY Theme Parks,
Just State Fairs And County Carnivals, But
This Whole Fobidden Journey Sounds Like Bull!
I Once Had A Dream Of Going To Bush Gardens,
But If These Parks Wanna Play That Crap
They Can Shove It Where The Sun Don't Shine!
You Sound Very Awesome For Allowing Those Tards
To Bully You Out Of Your Hard Earned Pay Day-By-Day, But I Guess I'm Not So Tolerant Of Ignorant Thieves! Loose The Weight, Then Sue Them For Infringed Rights, False Advertising And Last But Certainly Not Least...Slander! Your Kickass Pal...Auksryte!

  21. Hi Banks! A friend of mine just told me about your blog. I know how difficult it is to lose weight. I have lost 60 pounds since my son was born and acheived a lot of that with beachbody products. I'm a beachbody coach which means I help people acheive their health and fitness goals. My website has lots of exercise systems to look at such as P90X, Slim in 6, Insanity. Since January, I've completed two programs and have gotten in the best shape of my life! Beachbody also sells an AMAZING meal replacement drink(not al all like Slim Fast which is kinda hard to force down sometimes) This drink honest to goodness tastes like a chocolate milkshake from an ice cream parlor! It has ALL the nutrients you need for one day, is 140 calories, keep you full, stabalizes your bloos sugars and a whole lot more!! Let me know if you would like to check some of this out! I have a website you can look at. It's www.beachbodycoach.com/jenwhittaker The beachbody community is SO supportive too. Goo luck on your journey!!

  22. Banks: Congratulations on your decision to fit in the HP ride. I think that goal will prove to yourself all the great power and will you have.
This is one big step in your life, taking a decision to change your life and improve it. I am quite sure that there will be many more successful stories after this one is accomplished and remember as anything, life is: two steps forward and one back, BUT NEVER, NEVER, NEVER,EVER GIVE UP!.
    You are a winner already.

  24. Continued From: June 26, 2010 4:56 AM...
Apologies, Instead Of Slander I Meant To Say Defamation Of Character, Size Profiling And Gender Discrimination, Since ALL NORMAL MEN Are Between 5'9-6'4 And Weigh At Least 200lbs!
(Again, Hope This Helps...Yo' Bud Auksryte!)

  25. Come on dude, you can do it.

I have lost a lot of weight in the last 9 years (around 100 lbs), only jogging 40 minutes a day (5 days a week) and eating less. Also I quit Coca Cola and any other artificial drink. I don't drink alcohol and don't smoke either

Some tips: Drink a lot of water and drink a lot of juice (Papaya or strawberry); it will fill you up and you'll be less hungry. If you get bored of the same routine, try something else, like basketball or swimming

    NEVER GIVE UP

P.S: the only bad thing was all the money I had to spend again in clothing ;)

  26. Like a few others who have commented in this thread, I am curious if you have ever experienced a similar, frustrating limitation on other amusement park rides. The article I saw mentioned that you'd ridden many Disney rides without problem - are there other Universal rides that restrict you from riding?
